6th Grade Post Impressionists: Georges Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte"

6th graders learned about impressionist and post-impressionist art, and created their own life-size mural of Georges Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte." They used the pointillism (dotted) painting technique to fill out their part of the painting. I created a grid format for them to use, and they mixed their own colors and painted square by square. The students that had easy squares were able to paint 2, since there were more squares than students. I am so proud of the 6th graders, this painting is currently hanging in the 3rd floor hallway and it brings so much beauty to its space. Make sure to come check it out! It was very satisfying to put it altogether.
