Ferdinand Hodler Landscapes

In 5th grade, we learned about the Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler. Students practiced his style on photocopies using oil pastels, then created originals on final paper. They paid attention to thoughtful color pallets and blending the oil pastels, and the final pieces turned out beautiful.

Tint & Shade landscapes

Last week, we learned how to use the hue of a color and create tints and shades by adding white and black. For this project, we used the same concept, but applied it to a landscape. 5th graders created "tint and shade landscapes"  using the skills they learned in the last exercise.

Graphic Design varied simple compositions

Graphic Design students delved deeper into their basic black and white compositions using black ink instead of cutting and pasting. They created 12 squares on their paper, and used lines for the top row, shapes for the 2nd row, a repeating pattern/ grid for the 3rd row, and organic shapes for the 4th row. They spent a very long time on these compositions and they turned out beautifully.
