8th graders learned about the Harlem Renaissance during Black History Month in Literature and Social Studies, so we also connected it to Art. We learned about the amazing Harlem Renaissance artist Aaron Douglas and re-created his style art.

First, we used mod-podge and tissue paper to create a 3 color toned background:
Then we used black, white and grey to paint the foreground, middle-ground and background elements; taking into account the emotions African-Americans faced during the Harlem Renaissance.
